Both the Sam Houston men's and women's cross country squads competed in their second meet of the 2014 season Friday afternoon in the Rice Invitational.
Running against a tough field of 14 teams that include competitors from LSU, Houston, Rice, Texas State and five other Southland Conference squads, the Sam Houston men placed ninth. McNeese State won the men's competition with 51 points. Rice was the runner-up with 76.
Logan Terry led the Bearkat men on the 5,620-meter course with a 33rd place finish and a time of 18:11 . Other Kat finishers were Colton Stoker 34th (18:12), Evan Arambula 61st (18:48), Patrick Pitts 69th (19:08) and John Bounds 72nd (19:24).
Brian Barraza of the University of Houston was the top collegiate finisher with a mark of 16:57.
With only four competitor running from the SHSU women's team, the Bearkats did not score in the team competition with 14 other squads.
Ana Moreno placed 17th individually with a time of 14:17 on the 3,950 meter course. Other Bearkat women performances included Miranda Prado 33rd (14:37) and Nicole Aponte 36th (14.41).
Next up for the Sam Houston cross country squads is the Texas A&M Invitational next weekend in College Station.
