As undisputed Southland Conference champions and the only unbeaten team in the Football Championship Subdivision, Sam Houston is the number one seed in 2011 NCAA Division I Football Championships.

Sam Houston has drawn a bye in the Nov. 26 first round. The Bearkats will play in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 3, hosting No. 22 Stony Brook. The Seawolves rallied from 28-10 behind to defeat Albany 31-28 in the first round of the playoffs.

With the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division I football playoffs, Sam Houston is guaranteed a home game at Bowers Stadium each round they advance through the playoffs to the semifinals.

A Bearkat victory on Saturday Dec. 3 will move Sam Houston into the quarterfinals which will be played either Friday Dec. 9 or Saturday Dec. 10 at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville.

Semifinals are Dec. 16-17 in Huntsville and the NCAA Division I Championship game will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at noon at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, hosted by the Southland Conference.

 "Having served on the NCAA national playoff committee and being part of Sam Houston's four national playoff years, I know the importance of the home field advantage," Bearkat director of athletics Bobby Williams said. "Sam Houston is 2-0 in home playoff games and 1-4 on the road. That's why it is so important that, as the top seed, we are going to be the home team up until the finals if we keeping winning."

Sam Houston State has earned a berth in the playoffs four times (1986, 1991, 2001 and 2004). The Bearkats reached the semifinals in 2004 and the quarterfinals in 2001, both years the team started action with a home game.

Season ticket holder locations will be held until the Monday before the team's first home playoff game. After that, they will be released for sale to the public for the remainder of the schedule.

Any fan interested in series package tickets can order now in available locations online at or at the SHSU athletic ticket office located in the Ron Mafrige Field House at Bowers Stadium. The ticket office telephone number is (936) 294-1729. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Credit card customers will be automatically charged as soon as the home game is announced. This will allow fans to ensure their same seat location and tickets either will be mailed or waiting for fans at the will call window.

"The support of our fans at Bowers Stadium this fall has been crucial to the Bearkats' success on the field in this great 10-0 season," Williams said. "The Bearkats need our local fans support now more than ever. We have an opportunity to make a statement on a national level about what a great university and athletic program we have here in Huntsville. We are looking forward to enthusiastic support from our Bearkat fans throughout the playoffs."

Tickets for the NCAA Division I Football Playoff games at Bowers Stadium may be purchased now online at . The Bearkat athletic ticket office in the Ron Mafrige Fieldhouse at Bowers Stadium  will be open Monday through Friday Nov. 28 through Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ticket prices are $25 for reserved chairback seats, $20 for bleacher reserved and $15 for general admission seats. The SHSU athletic ticket office telephone number is (936) 294-1729.

Student tickets for Sam Houston NCAA Division I football playoff game Dec. 3 go on sale Monday.

There are no free admissions for NCAA Division I National Championship events. The official price for playoff student tickets is $10. However, thanks to the contributions of Bearkat donors led by the City of Huntsville and the City of Conroe, Sam Houston State student tickets have been discounted to $5.

"The Bearkat athletic department and our outstanding 11-0 championship football team are grateful to our generous supporters here in the community for making this student discount possible," Sam Houston director of athletics Bobby Williams said. "Putting students first is a Sam Houston tradition. The $5 discount will allow more of the Bearkats' top fans to proudly wear their orange and be in the stands to cheer the team to victory."

Student $5 tickets also will be on sale in the mall in front of the Lowman Student Center Monday through Thursday Nov. 28 through Dec. 1 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
