Having a bye the first week of the season did not have an effect on Sam Houston State's place atop The Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision national rankings which were released Monday.

McNeese State jumped into the rankings after the  Cowboys defeated FBS-opponent Middle Tennessee State on the road Thursday night, 27-21.

The Sports Network poll is voted upon by media members and sports information directors across the nation. The FCS Coaches Poll features  a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
