Waco - Right fielder Amy Pelton and left fielder Jessica Slater hit RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning as Sam Houston State defeated Baylor 2-0 in extra innings Saturday morning on the third day of the Baylor Bear Softball Invitational.

Illinois State rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Kats in Sam Houston's second game of the day at Getterman Field. SHSU will complete action in the tournament Sunday morning.

Shelby Lancaster spread eight hits over eight innings, picking up the shutout over Baylor after facing 32 batters as Sam Houston upped its 2013 season record to 2-1.

Sam Houston had only two hits in the first seven innings, but the Bearkats' final two hits in the first extra inning of play brought home the winning runs.

In Saturday's second game, Tori Benavidez blasted a two-run homer to right center to give Sam Houston a 2-0 lead in the opening inning.

Elizabeth Kay rallied Illinois State with a fourth inning two run homer that powered ISU to a 4-2 lead. Kay also brought in what proved to be the winning run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Hillary Adams went 2-for-4 for Sam Houston with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
