Haley Carter is in her first season as volunteer assistant coach for Sam Houston and is coaching the goalkeepers. Carter is a 2006 Graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where she was a three-year letter winner for the Navy Women's Soccer team. Haley finished her career at Navy with a 1.02 GAA. Haley was also a three-time Patriot League All-Academic Honoree.
After graduation, Haley was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps and made combat deployments to Iraq in 2007 and 2009 where she competed against the 7th and 12th Iraqi Army Division Men's Soccer teams. In between deployments, she was the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. All-Armed Forces Women's Soccer team and competed in Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Women's Military World Soccer Championships in Ede, Netherlands (2008) and Cherbourg, France (2010). Haley was MCAS Cherry Point Female Athlete of the Year in 2010 and finalist for Marine Corps Female Athlete of the Year following her accolades earned while representing the United States. From 2010-2013, she was stationed in Hawaii and played semi-professionally for the Honolulu Bulls Soccer Club's W1 Team.
No longer on Active Duty, Haley is currently in her second season as a Goalkeeper for the Houston Dash, the newest professional team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). In addition to playing for the Dash, Haley is both a South Texas Youth Soccer Association and Region III ODP Goalkeeping Coach. She also serves as a Founding Member of the Haley’s Heroes charitable initiative for female veterans and as a Board Member for The Brian Cushing Foundation.
Haley is married to Michael Carter of Smithville, Texas and together they have one son, Harper.
