Played in nine games as a redshirt freshman, starting final eight games of the season at quarterback … finalist for Jerry Rice Award (top freshman in FCS), finishing 12th in the voting ... an honorable mention selection to the HERO Sports Freshman All-America team ... completed 178 of 312 passes for 2,417 yards and 15 scores … also rushed 79 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns … set SHSU freshman record for passing yards in a season … was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week and STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week after first career start vs Central Arkansas (9/29) where he threw for 305 yards and a score, along with rushing 18 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns … finished with five 300-yard passing games for the year … became the first SHSU player in history to rush, pass and receive a touchdown in the same game when he did so in win over Stephen F. Austin (10/6) … he finished with 46 rushing yards and a touchdown, 217 passing yards and two scores, along with a 32-yard touchdown catch from Eric Schmid in win over the Lumberjacks … threw for season highs of 374 yards and four touchdowns in road win at Northwestern State (10/13) … had 320 yards and one passing touchdown vs Southeastern Louisiana (10/27) … also threw for 316 yards and one touchdown against Abilene Christian (11/10).
