Sam Houston Bowling coach Brad Hagen has added his next signee to the 2017-18 squad with the addition of Syasya Ismail.
Ismail, is the first signee from Singapore to join the Beakats and is the sixth international player to join the program during its seven-year history.
“Syasya is a very talented young lady who has competed at a high level internationally for her country and on their national training squad,” Hagen said. “Syasya's competitive experiences and her academic work ethic will fit in greatly with this team's mission as she is self-driven and motivated by this opportunity. Syasya will add to an already impressive recruiting class and to the depth of talent this roster has going in to next season.”
Some of Ismail's most recent accomplishments include being the 2016 recipient of the Colours Award, Distinction for ten-pin bowling, which she earned as well in 2015 for her overall success. The Colours Award is an award given in recognition of individuals sporting achievements at the National School Games.
Also in 2016 she was a youth masters qualifier in the U18 Girls Division, placed 3rd in Doubles at the National Schools 'A' Division Championships, and most impressively was the All-Events Champion at the National Schools 'A' division Championships.
Ismail joins the Bearkat Bowling Program from Anglo-Chinese Junior College in Singapore, which is among the strongest schools in the country. ACJC received the Academic Value-Added Achievement Award in 2005 and 2006. This award is presented to schools that have been most effective in achieving improvement in their students.
She also joins the Bearkats with a very strong academic background where's she has posted a 3.8 GPA. Along with her academic accolades, Ismail was a member of the Malay Cultural Society. The Malay Cultural Society is a social organization club where individuals learn more about the Malay culture and carry out community service projects to help the Malay Community in Singapore.
