WACO, Texas – A second-half goal from senior Lindsey Bienski helped the Sam Houston State soccer team to a 1-1, exhibition draw against Baylor, Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
Senior goalkeeper Christina Hendershot brought in one save in the first half after Baylor’s Kayley Ables fired off a shot in the ninth minute. The Bears jumped on the board, 1-0, later in the 43rd minute thanks to a goal from Kennedy Brown.
Returning after halftime with a sense of urgency, Bienski evened up the match, 1-1, after she broke behind the back line and netted a rebounded shot in the 55th minute.
Hendershot raked in four more saves in the second half and the Kats were able to fire off two more scoring attempts. Despite their best efforts, neither team was able to move past the 1-1 deadlock and the match was called after a full 90 minutes.
Earlier on Aug. 6, junior Lexi Bullard’s lone goal helped the squad to a 1-1 draw at UTSA, Sunday evening at Park West Athletics Complex in San Antonio, Texas.
SHSU’s 2018 season begins on Thursday, Aug. 16 when the Kats host Utah State in a 6:30 p.m. match at Pritchett Field. Live stats will be available for the match. For all the latest information on the Sam Houston State soccer team, visit gobearkats.com or follow @BearkatsSOC on Twitter.
