TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Grace Stine and senior Meredith Carlson led the Sam Houston State soccer team (1-2-1) with two shots apiece, but the Bearkats fell 3-0 to Oral Roberts, Friday night at Case Soccer Complex.

Fifteen minutes into the first half, Carlson fired off the first shot of the game but her shot sailed just wide of the goal. The Kats prevented an ORU shot until the 23-minute mark, but the Golden Eagles’ first scoring attempt sailed straight into the hands of senior goalkeeper Christina Hendershot (1-2-1).

With 10 minutes to go before the end of the first half, ORU sent the ball to the right side of the pitch and Marina Solberg sunk a shot from 15-yards out to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Stine tried to even up the match in the 41st minute with the Bearkats’ only other scoring attempt in the first half, but the shot was blocked and SHSU trailed 1-0 heading into halftime.

Three minutes after the start of the second half, Hendershot came up with her second save after ORU’s Jordan Langebartles sent a shot towards the SHSU goal. However, later in the 59th minute, Langebartles made it a 2-0 match on a goal from six-yards out.

SHSU fired off two more shots before ORU scored its third goal of the match 10 minutes later. ORU’s Sierra Beall received a cross from inside the box and managed to sneak the ball by Hendershot to take a 3-0 advantage.

Taylor Pritchard and Carlson tried to cut the three-goal deficit, but the Kats’ fell 3-0. Hendershot recorded three saves on the evening and dropped to 1-2-1 on the season.
