Lake Charles, La. - The Sam Houston State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede on Saturday morning with Cryslan Tucker and Jordan Leon leading each side, respectively.
For the men’s, Leon finished the race in 11th place and collected 11 points in the four-mile race. The senior finished the race with a time of 21:51.8 followed by teammates Sergio Armendariz (22:13.2), Cameron Theriot (22:46.4), Jeffrey Moore (22:56.8) and David Zavala (23:01.9). The men collected a total of 122 points finishing fourth out of the field of 14. The total time for the team was 1:52.51 and the average time for the team was 22:35.
On the women’s side, Tucker led the way once again for the team for the third consecutive week. She placed seventh and collected seven points in the women’s 5k race. The freshman continued a great start to the season, she finished with a time of 19:09.5. The rest of the top five runners finished strong with Rebecca Gonzalez (19:21.1), Hannah Tarrant (19.34.7), Lizzy Duenes (19:50.1) and Hanna Sanchez (20:17.9) round out the top five. The team collected 77 points and finished third overall out of the field of 14. The women’s total time was 1:38.14 with an average time of 19:39.
The Bearkats will return to action in two weeks as they compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station on October 13.
