NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Sam Houston State soccer team (3-12-3, 2-7-2 SLC) was unable to respond to early Stephen F. Austin goals and dropped its final regular-season match, 5-0, Friday night at SFA Soccer Field.

After starting goalkeeper Christina Hendershot recorded a save, SFA broke open the scoring early in the eighth minute after Sophia Fondren slid a shot by Hendershot to take an early 1-0 advantage. Hendershot responded with two more saves, but SFA’s Breanna Moore more made it a 2-0 match on a goal off a rebounded shot in the 22nd minute.

The Ladyjacks extended their lead in the 31st minute after Fondren netted her second goal from 40 yards out and SFA took a 4-0 lead just two minutes before halftime thanks to a goal from Teia Haynes. The Bearkats recorded just one shot in the first half compared to SFA’s 12. Freshman Grace Stine tried to help the Bearkat cause before the first half ended, but her shot in the 18th minute sailed high of the goal.

Freshman Abby DeLozier came in to defend the Sam Houston State goal at the start of the second half and collected one save before SFA’s Carli Arthurs made it a 5-0 match in favor of the Ladyjacks in the 61st minute.

Katy Johnson and Sammi Mayock each took a stab at cutting into SFA’s lead, but both of their attempts failed to reach the back of the net.

Sam Houston finished the regular season with a 3-12-3 overall record and 2-7-2 mark in Southland Conference play. For all the latest information on the Sam Houston State soccer team, visit or follow @BearkatsSOC on Twitter.
