HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State softball team dropped the final game of the series against Lamar 5-3 at the Bearkat Softball complex on Saturday, moving to 14-15 on the season, 6-3 in SLC play.
Sophomore pitcher Annie Bailey was given the ball to start, but only would go 2.1 innings after a single and a hit by pitch put two on for the Cardinals in the top of the third. Regan Dunn came in to close out the ball game, logging 4.2 innings with seven hits and four strikeouts.
Lamar’s ace Erin Kyle gave the Kats offense some trouble, with the Kats struggling to get consistent hits until the bottom of the seventh. A double from Karlee Canada and singles by Ashley Goetz and Sheridan Fisher would help plate two runs for the Kats, but the rally would fall short and Lamar would take game three, 5-3.
Sam Houston will travel down Highway 30 on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Texas A&M at Davis Diamond; first pitch to be tossed at 4 pm.
