Anthony Johnson joined the Sam Houston football staff in January, 2010, as running backs coach and has played a key role in the Bearkats' 31-10 record the past three years.

Sam Houston's running backs have led a Bearkat offense that has produced 38 school records since 2010. The 2012 Kats ranked second in the nation in scoring and seventh nationally in rushing yards. The team scored 600 points, a mark only two other teams in NCAA FCS play have equaled.

Running back Timothy Flanders has earned All-America and Southland Conference "Player of the Year" honors in consecutive seasons and wildkat back Richard Sincere earned Southland Conference "Offensive Player of the Year" honors in 2011.

Flanders was a first team all-league selection and won honors as Southland "Newcomer of the Year" during Johnson's first season at Sam Houston in 2010.

Prior to his move to Huntsville, Johnson served on the quality control staff for the University of Texas at Austin. He worked as a direct assistant to the running backs coach, helping with analyzing video and breaking down opposing defense reports.

As a Longhorns assistant, Johnson worked with three NFL draft picks - Cedric Benson (Chicago Bears 1st round), Jamal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs 3rd round) and Chris Ogbonnaya (Saint Louis Rams 7th round). Benson was a first team All-America selection and winner of the Doak Walker award. Charles was Big 12 "Freshman of the Year" and earned first team All-Big 12 honors.

While Johnson was a member of the Longhorns' coaching staff, Texas rolled up a 34-4 record, won the Fiest Bowl and Holiday Bowl titles and played in the national championship game.

Johnson was an assistant coach at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Texas in 2006.  The team went 10-2, winning the bi-district championship. Johnson coached two all-district running backs.

Johnson was a member of the Longhorns' football team from 2001 to 2005, playing on teams that won the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl and two Holiday bowls. He holds a degree from the University of Texas Austin in applied learning and development.

Johnson and his wife Erica are the parents of a daughter, London.
