Called the "Battle of the Piney Woods" Luncheon, the gala is presented by Texas Barge and Boat Inc., Midway Energy Services and CenterPoint Energy.
The event will begin at 12 noon, Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the JW Marriott, 5150 Westheimer in the Galleria. The event is one in a series by the Touchdown Club of Houston to promote Greater Houston football.
The luncheon precedes the 87th renewal of the Sam Houston versus Stephen F. Austin football rivalry which will kickoff Saturday October 6 at 3 p.m. The game has attracted more than 25,000 fans to Reliant Stadium each of the past two seasons.
The series, which began in 1923, stands as the fourth oldest continuous college football rivalry in Texas. Only Baylor-Texas (98 meetings), SMU-TCU (89) and SMU-Rice (88) are older rivalries still in play.
In addition to Fritz and Harper, also speaking will be Sam Houston athletic director Bobby Williams as well as SFA athletic director Robert Hill. Emcees will be Ch. 13 sports director Bob Allen, an SFA grad, and Ch. 2 sports director Randy McIlvoy, a SHSU graduate.
Tickets are $45 each. Tables are 10 seats each, and cost $450 (regular table sponsor), $500 (bronze sponsorship), $1,000 (silver sponsorship), $1,500 (gold sponsorship) and $2,500 (platinum sponsorship).
Premium table sponsors will have their names in the paper program, and will sit on the first few rows. There also will be a pre-event reception with the head coaches and athletic directors for title sponsors, as well as the event's platinum, gold and silver sponsors.
The TD Club will display a seating chart for the luncheon on its website at www.touchdownclub.org a few days before the event. To view the chart on the TD Club's home page, click on the "seating chart" link on the left-hand side of the page to view where tables will be located. The TD Club uses assigned seating.
Tickets must be purchased by Mon., Oct. 1, due to the caterer's deadline. There will be a limited number of walk-up seats available on the day of the event. To pay for tickets, please call the TD Club's Neal Farmer at his home office at 713-849-9860, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
TOUCHDOWN CLUB OF HOUSTON is the Houston chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. The NFF - among other things - runs the College Football Hall of Fame, provides the BCS formula that determines who will play in the Bowl Championship Series college national football championship game, and gives scholarships to undergraduates and graduates in colleges. We are non-denominational, in that we don't solely support one team. Our purpose is to assist kids in Greater Houston. Please check our website for updates to our future events.
The TD Club of Houston has awarded about $170,000 in scholarships to approximately 250 Greater Houston kids in the past 12 years; given out about $180,000 in weights and weight equipment to 37 Greater Houston high schools in the past 11 years for use by boys and girls.
has distributed excess cleats and tennis shoes from the Houston Texans, many of which were never worn, to needy area schools; started the Senior Showcase in 2009 with the Houston Texans and with Houston ISD, during which more than 600 high school kids have been offered more than $40 million in scholarships and grants from NAIA and NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III schools.
