Bearkat athletics
received a generous $5,000 grant from Enterprise Rent-A-Car last week. Carter
Norwood, talent acquisition manager for Enterprise, presented the check to the
Sam Houston State athletic academic services.
The gift is a
continuation of a long-standing relationship between Sam Houston athletics and
Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The grant will serve as a valuable asset to Bearkat
athletics.
The grant money was
not the only gift received from Enterprise. Carter Norwood also held a clinic
for Sam Houston student-athletes about "being on their game" for job
interviews. Norwood spoke to 66 Bearkat student-athletes, including the entire
men's and women's basketball teams.
Norwood, who has
volunteered his time to SHSU athletics before, spoke about appearing
professional from the moment you pull into the parking lot. Norwood coached the
athletes on how to dress and how to act. He discussed specifics such as tying a
tie, giving a proper hand shake, and sitting up straight in a chair.
"Mr. Norwood's
presentation was just awesome," Sam Houston State senior soccer player and SAAC
officer Hillary Ackerman said. "His presentation was full of great information
and also really entertaining."
In Norwood's
previous visits he has helped student-athletes with resume writing. Norwood has
also provided Bearkat student-athletes with internship and scholarship
opportunities.
