Kara Whitson serves as administrative assistant to head football coach K. C. Keeler.
With both her bachelor and master’s degrees from Sam Houston, she compiled an outstanding record of achievement as a student-athlete both in track and field and in the classroom.
Last spring she earned dual honors as both Southland Conference indoor and outdoor “Women’s Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year.”
The Port Lavaca, Texas, native became only the fourth female in league history to earn indoor and outdoor student-athlete of the year in the same season.
Whitson earned her bachelors of science in food science and nutrition in three years with a 3.36 GPA and recently finished her master’s in instructional leadership in one year, maintaining a 4.0.
Since 2007, 19 Bearkats have been named student-athlete of the year a total of 23 times.
