Previously a graduate assistant in the compliance department at Sam Houston State, Dylan Cannon returned as the compliance coordinator in August 2019.
A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Cannon received a B.S. from Brigham Young University and an M.S. from East Carolina University. Previously a marriage and family therapist, Cannon began his career switch to athletic compliance by becoming a graduate assistant in compliance under Curtis Collier and Trevor Thorn. Cannon credits Collier and Thorn for giving him myriad opportunities to gain experience with numerous bylaws and thoroughly preparing him to enter the full-time workforce.
After serving as a graduate assistant, Cannon became the compliance assistant at UNC Greensboro where he handled nearly all of the day-to-day operations of the compliance department during the transitional period after staff turnover. Cannon then accepted a position at Northern Arizona University where he was responsible for monitoring Bylaws 13 and 17 for all 15 Lumberjack squads.
Missing the Bearkat family, brisket, humidity and Astros baseball, Cannon returned to Sam Houston State to assume the responsibilities of his former boss after Collier retired.
Cannon and his wife, Julie, have two precocious daughters, Eloise and Charlotte. In his personal time, Cannon’s interests include Utah Jazz basketball, Houston Astros baseball, reading to his daughters, and the quest to find the best BBQ in Texas. He struggles to lay off the low curveball in “MLB the Show 19” and has not yet won the marriage-long battle with his wife to buy a dog."
