HUNTSVILLE Right fielder Tyler Knight blasted a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a 16-6 run-rule victory for Sam Houston State over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference baseball game Friday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium.

Knight's home run was his second grand slam of the season and the third for the Bearkats this year.

A three-run homer by catcher Mark Wyatt provided the go-ahead runs for Sam Houston State in the bottom of the third inning.

The third inning rally marked the 21st time this season the Bearkats have come from behind to win as Sam Houston upped its season record to 32-21. The home run was Wyatt’s 12th of the season. He also hit a three-run bomb in Thursday’s 10-2 victory over the Islanders. Sam Houston and TAMUCC will complete the three-game series and the regular season Saturday at 1 p.m.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (17-38, SLC 8-24) took a 5-3 lead over the Bearkats in the top of the third on a home run by third baseman Jeremy Narvaez that scored three runs.

Knight went 3-for-5 with six RBIs to lead Sam Houston at the plate. Peter Goudeau also had three hits. Wyatt totaled five RBIs with an RBI single in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the first. Ryan Mooney and Nick Zaleski also each had two hits for Sam Houston.

Dallas Gallant (3-4) was the winning pitcher in relief for the Bearkats, giving up three hits in three innings and striking out six Islanders. Jacob Howard started the contest and Will Skelton pitched in relief.

Brett Camline (3-7), one of five pitchers on the mound for TAMUCC Friday, was the losing pitcher.

Sam Houston State has clinched its third consecutive berth in the Southland Conference post-season tournament which will begin Wednesday. The Bearkats are the two-time defending SLC tournament champions. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi did not qualify for post-season play this year.
