LAKE CHARLES, LA -- Two Sam Houston women's golfers finished among the top 10 individuals at the Cowgirl Fall Invitational played Monday and Tuesday on the par 72, 6,122-yard course at Lake Charles Country Club.

Kirsten Spittler shot a 74-76-79--229 and Meghann Stevens carded a 77-75-77--229 to tie for eighth place in the event. Spittler was competing as one of the five players whose scores counted towards the Bearkats' team total while Stevens was playing as an individual entry only. Sam Houston placed fifth as a team with a 315-319-314--948 total.

Eight teams competed in the tournament hosted by McNeese State University. Central Arkansas won the team title with a 900 score. C. J. Bobbitt of UCA was the individual medalist champion after winning a sudden-death playoff with Linda Persson of Lamar. Both fired 54-hole totals of 224.

Lamar was the team runner-up with a 922 total, followed in the standings by McNeese State 934, McLennan 942, Sam Houston 948, Stephen F. Austin 989, McNeese 1000 and Centenary 1046.

Other Sam Houston State finishers were Landa Stewart 16th at 235, Meghan Musk 22nd at 241 and Shelby Hardy 25th at 243.

The Cowgirl Invitational is the final tournament of the Bearkat women's fall schedule.
