Paul Ridings, director of the Bearkats' sports information department since July, 1989, has been named as Sam Houston State associate athletic director for media relations, SHSU director of athletics Bobby Williams has announced.

During his 23 years at Sam Houston, Ridings as overseen the athletic department's public relations activities, coordinating athletic publications, publicity, the athletic department web site and statistical reporting to the Southland Conference and the NCAA.

"This is a very deserving promotion for Paul," Williams said. "As we continue to move forward with our department, this is an area we felt needed to be addressed and strengthened."

Before joining the Bearkat staff in 1989, Ridings served as assistant athletic director at Southern Utah State (1988-89), associate sports information director at SMU (1980-88), public relations director for the Dallas Tornado Soccer Team (1976-79), and sports information director at Trinity University (1971-75).

A 1970 graduate of TCU, Ridings and his wife, Mary, have a son, Nathan Joseph, who is a Sam Houston State University graduate.
