With two victories in the Progressive Legends Classic Huntsville Sub-Regional last week, the Bearkats stand 3-3 going into a road contest versus Texas in Austin Tuesday.

Sam Houston defeated Liberty 64-50 and UC Irving in overtime 65-63 Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bearkat guard Darius Gatson was named to the Legends Classic all-tournament team after sinking the layup in overtime that provided Sam Houston's winning points.

The Bearkats' three losses have come at the hands of Arkansas, No. 1 ranked Indiana and Southern Mississippi. The Kats were within four points of Arkansas in the final two minutes at Fayetteville and had two three-point shots rim out before falling to the Hogs by five.

Sam Houston and Texas will tip off at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Erwin Center. The contest will be broadcast in the Huntsville area on KSAM 101.7 FM..

The Bearkats and the Longhorns are meeting for the 16th time on the hardcourt. The Horns hold a 13-2 advantage in a series that dates back to 1935.

The contest marks the third straight year the pair have met in Austin in a November matchup. Texas recorded an 84-50 win on Nov. 23, 2010 and last year won 56-40 on Nov. 26, 2011.

The Sam Houston men's basketball program has rolled up an overall record of 248 victories and 149 losses since its 2000 Southland Conference championship. That ranks the Kats as the "winningest" program in the Southland in the past 13 years. SHSU won league titles in 2000, 2003 and 2010, advancing to the NCAA Championships in 2003 and 2010.

The University of Texas in Austin is the only NCAA Division I men's basketball programs in the state that has won more games than Sam Houston State since 2000.
