Sam Houston State fans will have their one opportunity to see the Bearkats' nationally-ranked women's bowling team in action locally when Huntsville Lanes plays host to the second annual Track Kat Klash  this Friday through Sunday Nov. 30 through Dec. 2

SHSU head women's bowling coach Brad Hagen has lined up an outstanding field for the event.

"This year's event should be even more exciting that last season and will give us a great opportunity to display our sport to Huntsville area Bearkat fans," Hagen said. "The field features an outstanding group of nationally ranked big name teams."

Eight of the 16 teams in the Track Kat Klash stand among the top 20 in NCAA Division I bowling including No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Nebraska, No. 8 Sam Houston, No. 9 Valparaiso, No. 10 Stephen F. Austin, No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 17 Prairie View A&M.

Also participating in the event are Long Island, Saint Francis (NY), Monmouth, Grambling State, Louisiana Tech, Texas Southern, Tulane and Alabama-Birmingham.

To add to the excitement, has announced their web site will stream all three days action live all weekend on VIA

"This is great exposure for our sport and our university," Hagen said. "Certainly it's going to be exciting for our young ladies to have the opportunity to play before their home fans. We're looking to have great crowds all three days."

The schedule for the Track Kat Klash calls for quad Baker matches on day one, traditional team matches on day two and bracket play best of seven Baker competition on the final day.

Tournament action will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

"This year's field features 16 of the top women's bowling programs in the country including six that are ranked in the top 10 in the nation," Hagen said. "We hope as many local fans as possible can come out to Huntsville Lanes this weekend as we look to take advantage of home court and show everyone the support this University has for our program."

Sam Houston won inaugural Track Kat Klash championship last year, defeating Arkansas State four games to none in the finals.

This year's Bearkat bowlers have already won tournament championships at Tulane and Alabama A&M and finished as runner-up at Bethune-Cookman.
