Three Bearkats Named Sports Network All-America

Darnell Taylor, Timothy Flanders and Kaleb Hopson all have been select to the 2012 Sports Network FCS All- America Team.

Taylor, a safety from Mesquite, has been named as a first team selection on The Sports Network All-America squad for the second consecutive year. The 6-0, 195 senior was named the Southland Conference's defensive player of the year for the second consecutive season.

The senior has totaled 94 tackles, including 64 solos, two sacks, two interceptions, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in Sam Houston State's 13 games. The Bearkats have reached the national semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Flanders, junior running back from Midwest City, Okla., and Hopson, senior offensive lineman from Early, are third team selections.

Flanders was the Southland Conference "Player of the Year" for the second consecutive season. He has been the Southland's leading rusher the past two years. The junior stands as Sam Houston's all-time rushing leader with 705 carries for 3,950 yards and 52 touchdowns. He has produced 24 100-yard rushing performances in his career, a total that includes a school record nine 100-yard games this year.

Hopson is a first team All-Southland Conference selection who has been a key force in a Sam Houston offensive line that has blocked for the nation's No. 7 rushing attack. The Bearkats led the Southland Conference with 273.9 rushing yards per game this year and ranked No. 2 national in scoring offense.

Sam Houston State has reached the NCAA Division I Football Championships semifinals for the second consecutive year. The Bearkats will face No. 2 seed Eastern Washington in Cheney Saturday at 3 p.m. Central Time. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
