The Sam Houston State football team will depart the Ron Mafrige Field House at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium at 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 2).
The Bearkats will bus to Frisco this evening where Saturday, Jan. 5 at 12 noon, SHSU will battle North Dakota State in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game at FC Dallas Stadium. The contest will be played before a standing room only crowd of more than 22,000 fans and an ESPN2 national television audience.
The caravan of charter team buses plus their police escorts will travel down Sam Houston Avenue through the Huntsville downtown area, then turn on Highway 30 and head to Interstate 45 for three hour trip north to the Greater Dallas area.
Sam Houston will practice Thursday and Friday on fields surrounding the FC Dallas Stadium complex as well as attend special NCAA Finals Weekend events.
North Dakota State and Sam Houston are meeting in the finals for the second year in a row.
The Bison are the No. 1 seed in the NCAA FCS tournament and stand 13-1 for the year. Sam Houston, ranked No. 5 in the final regular season rankings, were unseeded in post-season play but reached the finals with victories over Cal Poly, Montana State and Eastern Washington
