After impressive performances against nationally-ranked opponents on the road last week, the Sam Houston women's tennis team opens its 2013 home schedule Saturday and Sunday.

The Bearkats will play host to Abilene Christian at 10 a.m. Saturday and Tyler College at 12 noon on Sunday. Both matches will be held at the McAdams Tennis Center on campus.

Sam Houston lost to Baylor and TCU last week, but there were top performances by the Bearkats in both matches.

Sunday at TCU, Sheridan Currie, Tanya Postnikova and Kayla Stevenson posted victories at the No. 2, 5 and 6 singles as Sam Houston State fell 4-3 in a non-conference women's tennis dual match against No. 37 ranked TCU Sunday afternoon.

Currie defeated Gabi Barbosa 7-6 1-6 1-0 (10-7) while Postnikova topped Monika Sirilova 6-4 7-6 and Stevenson knocked off Molly Welsh 6-0 6-4.

"Certainly, we're not a finished product yet, but battling TCU and Baylor has to give the team confidence," SHSU head coach Jim Giachino said.

Sam Houston returns all its players from last year's squad that rolled up a 12-9 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference post-season tournament.

Currie, Postnikova and Nadia Dubyanskaya are seniors while juniors Imke Jagau, Kayla Stevenson and Olivia Battye also return. Freshman Maddie Mortimore strengthens the squad as the team's only newcomer.
