Lygia Foreman earns Southland weekly honor

Sam Houston State sprinter Lygia Foreman has been named as the Southland Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Foreman, a Fort Worth, Texas (Eastern Hills H.S.), native earned two medals at the Oklahoma Invitational in Norman, Okla., hosted by the University of Oklahoma.

She finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.14 before winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.51. With Foreman's award, the Bearkats have won consecutive women's track athlete of the week awards.

Sam Houston State and the other nine teams in the Southland Conference will compete in the league indoor track and field championships this Friday and Saturday at the University of Oklahoma indoor facility.
