A five-run eighth inning doomed the Bearkats as they lost 7-2 to Oral Roberts and dropped their second consecutive conference series. The series finale is Sunday at 1 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium.

Sam Houston State drops to 22-17 and 8-6 in league play. The Kats were in a tie for first place coming into the weekend and now sit tied for third.

Luke Plucheck blasted a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 2-2. The junior left fielder made a great diving catch in the top half of the inning to keep a run from scoring.

The tie didn’t last long as Oral Roberts put up of five in the next frame. Starter Andrew Godail gave up an infield single and a sacrifice bunt before being replaced by Jason Simms.

Simms was unable to get an out as he walked two and gave up an RBI single. Alan Scott finished the inning. The Bearkat defense committed two errors in the inning as well.

Plucheck was responsible for two of the four Bearkat hits and scored both of the runs. He doubled and came around to score in the fifth inning in addition to his seventh inning homer.

ORU starter Drew Bowen pitched 8 1/3 innings and struck out four.

Sam Houston State will host UT-Arlington Tuesday at Don Sanders for “50 Cent Hotdog Night”. Tuesday will be the Bearkats final home non-conference game.
