Three Named Southland Baseball All-Academic

Led by first-team selection Anthony Azar, the Bearkats placed three student-athletes on the Southland Conference baseball All-Academic team. Sophomore Tyler Eppler and junior Luke Plucheck made the second team.

Azar, a junior Geology major, was the Bearkats leading run producer and drove in a team-high 47 runs. His 21 doubles led the team and he was second on the squad with six homers.

An outstanding defensive player, the Woodlands, Texas, product committed just one error during the season. The one defensive gaffe came in the team’s first game of the Southland Conference Tournament. Azar’s 3.46 GPA is the highest on the team.

Pitcher Tyler Eppler was a big part of the Kats midweek success, picking up wins over Texas, Rice and Houston. The Navasota, Texas, product was at his best against the ranked opponents. Eppler is 5-2 with a 3.41 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 13 starts.

Eppler has a 3.47 GPA in Kinesiology after one year at Sam Houston State.

Outfielder Luke Plucheck finished the season with a .298 batting average in 58 starts. He was tied for the team lead with nine homers and was second on the team with 43 RBI. His 42 runs scored were the most on the team.

The Kinesiology major has a 3.09 GPA.
