The Southland football showdown between No. 2 Sam Houston State and No. 9 McNeese State Saturday in Lake Charles, La., at 7 p.m. will be telecast by ESPN3.

Both the Bearkats and the Cowboys enter the contest 5-1 for the season and 1-0 in Southland play.

Sam Houston State owns FCS victories over former No. 2 Eastern Washington, Lamar, Texas Southern and Incarnate Word. The Kats’ only loss is to FBS No. 7 Texas A&M. Sam Houston trailed the Aggies by only nine points in the third quarter.

McNeese State started the year with a 52-21 victory over South Florida. The Cowboys defeated Central Arkansas, an FCS playoff participant last season, in their league opener. McNeese also owns a win over Weber State of the Big Sky Conference. The Cowboys only loss came at the hands of FCS ranked Northern Iowa.

Lincoln Rose and Rene Nadeau will call the action Saturday night at Cowboy Stadium.
