Angela Beadle of Sam Houston State has earned Southland Conference Women’s Basketball “Player of the Week” honors for Jan. 16-18.
The 6-3 junior post player helped lead Sam Houston to wins over Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans to give the Bearkats three consecutive league wins.
The Austin, Texas (Crocket H.S.) product led the team in scoring and rebounding on the week with a 34-point, 10-rebound performance against the Lady Lions followed by 15 points and eight rebounds against the Privateers.
In the win against Southeastern Louisiana, Beadle helped orchestrate a 17-point second half comeback to force overtime. Her 34 points were four points shy of tying a Bearkats single-game record set by Sirene Autman in 1990.
The honor marks the second time this season Beadle has earned “Player of the Week” recognition. She also was selected Dec. 2 after scoring 30 points in an overtime victory at Rice.
Beadle leads the Southland Conference in rebounds this season with a 9.8 average. She stands as the league’s sixth leading scorer, averaging 15.4 points per game. She has scored in double figures in 15 of Sam Houston State’s 17 games this year.
The SHSU women head to Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian for Southland road contests Thursday and Saturday. The next home game for Sam Houston is Thursday, Jan. 30, when the Kats play host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
