San Antonio – Angela Beadle scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Sam Houston to a 60-51 women’s basketball road win over Incarnate Word Thursday night.

The victory, Sam Houston’s fourth in a row, evened the Kats at 9-9 for the season and upped their Southland Conference mark to 4-3.

Beadle now has scored in double figures in 16 of Sam Houston’s 18 games this year. The performance marked her 10th contest with double figure points and rebounds.

“We put things together in the second half,” SHSU head coach Brenda Nichols said. “When everyone does their job and takes care of their role we can be successful.”

Incarnate Word, now 8-9 for the season and 2-3 in the Southland, finished the first half with a 24-4 run to take a 33-23 lead at intermission. Sam Houston bounced back to outscore the Cardinals 37-18 in the second period.

Down 43-29 four minutes into the second half, the SHSU women went on a 17-0 run as freshman guard Kristina Smith put the Kats up 46-43 on a three-point basket with 8:01 to play.

UIW led two more times, the last at 49-48 with 4:30 to play. Sam Houston finished the game with a 12-2 run.

Sophomore guard Angela Barnes scored 15 points for Sam Houston. The Bearkats out-rebounded Incarnate Word 40-33 as Jasmine Johnson and Jasmine Robinson each grabbed six boards and Nyha Carter added five.

Sam Houston completes its two-week, four-game Southland road trip Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. contest at Abilene Christian.

The Bearkats’ next home game is Thursday, Jan. 30, when SHSU plays host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5:30 p.m.
