Student-athletes from the Bearkat NCAA intercollegiate sports teams came out to the University Police Department parking lot Tuesday afternoon to send off the university’s spirit programs for the competition at the National Cheer Association / National Dance Association Championships.
The Bearkat cheerleaders, Orange Pride dance team and Sammy Bearkat mascot will compete against other universities from across the nation at the event in Daytona Beach April 6-10.
The NCA/NDA competition in Daytona Beach features 20 divisions for cheerleading and 14 for dance. There also is a special competition among team mascots. The Bearkats have won numerous titles in the NCA/NDA event over the years.
“All the student-athletes at Sam Houston genuinely appreciate the great support our spirit groups give our teams at our events,” Sam Houston athletic-director Bobby Williams said. “We wish the cheerleaders, Orange Pride and Sammy Bearkat great success in Florida.”
