Yasma Smith is in her second season as graduate assistant with the Sam Houston State women's basketball program where she serves as director of operations. The Tyler, Texas, native comes to Huntsville after completing her bachelor of science in kinesiology (sports studies) at Mississippi State.
While in Starkville, Miss., Smith served a variety of roles with the women's basketball progra including head manager for the program from 2013-2016. Smith worked direction with the squads' director of basketball operations, serving as the liason between the locker room and office operations. She also supervised all managers and their duties along with equipment room coordination.
While helping grow the Mississippi State program, Smith's on and off-the-court efforts came during a time which the Bulldogs advantaged to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in program history behind a 28-8 overall record and second-place finish in the Southeastern Conference at 11-5.
Smith served as a basketball manager with the Bulldogs between August 2012 - May 2013, setting up equipment for practices and games including coordinating efforts with visiting teams, cheerleaders and referees. The 2016 Mississippi State alum would also organize apparel for players, coaches and support staff for both home and away contests as well as coordinated recruiting activities and assisted in player development.
She transferred to Mississippi State from Tyler Junior College, where she spent August 2010 - June 2012 as a student athletic trainer. Smith assisted with efforts for women's basketball, volleyball and women's tennis during her tenure and served as the host athletic trainer for several major events including the Fall 2010 NJCAA Men's Soccer National Championship.
