SAN ANTONIO – The Sam Houston State women captured fourth with 48.5 points and the men secured fifth with 34 points in the outdoor opener at the UTSA Invitational.

William Stark and Fabian McCall went 4-5 in the 110-meter hurdles behind marks of 14.71 and 14.96. Evan Wold took eighth in the event at 15.20.

Sam Houston recorded three top-10 finishes in the 100-meter dash, led by Bryan Henderson in fifth (10.88), Kyler Scott in sixth (10.97) and AJ Tisdel in ninth (11.02). Tisdel grabbed a ninth-place result in the 200-meter dash (22.22) and was joined by Kagan Angers in 12th (22.69) and Henderson in 13th (22.75).

In the 400-meter dash, Zachary Gasca took seventh (49.55) while Joshua Mack (50.72) and Kagan Angers (52.76) finished inside the top-10 at nine and 10.

The 400-meter hurdles saw Fabian McCall (56.27) and William Stark (59.59) take seventh and ninth respectively.

Colton Stoker captured seventh in the 1,500-meter rush at 4:07.72 and Grant Buley took 10th (4:21.60).

On the field side, Joshua Hernandez captured a second-place result in the hammer with a toss of 61.45 meters. He was joined by Michael Nichols in eighth (46.07 meters). Anthony Garcia impressed in the javelin, taking second at 64.85 meters and Angers grabbed 10th (41.07 meters).

Dylan Elliott took eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters while Derek Williams secured sixth in the high jump (1.90 meters) and eighth in the long jump (6.06 meters). In the discus, Michael Nichols took home ninth (43.97 meters), Angers grabbed 14th (36.53 meters) and Elliott took 17th (28.71 meters).

In the shot put, Michael Nichols took seventh (15.08 meters) followed by Joshua Hernandez in eighth (14.88 meters). Elliott went 10th (11.66 meters) followed by Angers in 11th (10.35 meters). Saige Revell captured second in the triple jump (14.76 meters).

In the 400-meter hurdles, Kodii Church ran 56.15 for a seventh-place result while Baylee Lara (57.90), Aaliyah Lane (58.63) and Teona Spivey (58.95) went 13-14-15.

Moesha Straughter finished seventh (12.37) in the 100-meter dash followed by teammate Charity Thomas (12.46) in ninth. Thomas added a 15th-place result in the 200-meter dash (25.44) followed by Straughter (25.89) in 18th and Jasmine Lewis (25.90) in 19th.

In the 1,500-meter run, Lizzy Duenes and Kassandra Luna went 14th and 15th at 5:18.99 and 5:21.38.

On the field side, Yarixza Rivera took sixth in the hammer throw (52.40 meters) and Halie Daniel went 14th (42.36 meters). Meanwhile, in the shot put, Daniel took sixth 14.01 meters), Tasha Crosse went 11th (11.68 meters), Avery Zamzow finished 12th (10.90 meters), Courtney Lord took 14th (10.22 meters) and Bayle Lara rounded out the competition in 15th (8.31 meters).

The Kats went 4-5-7 in the javelin as Lara tossed 31.87 meters, Avery Zamzow threw 30.42 meters and Courtney Lord went 10.43 meters.

Hannah Callaway captured the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 3.94 meters while Lauren Labay took fifth (3.49 meters) and Cameron Boedeker went sixth at the same mark.

The Kats secured 3-4-5 in the high jump courtesy of Morgan Heinrich (1.60 meters), Joan Cepeda (1.55 meters) and Lord (1.55 meters). In the discus, Tasha Crosse went fifth (48.55 meters).

In the long jump, Lara secured eighth (5.58 meters) and was joined by Heinrich in 13th (5.33 meters). The triple jump saw Sam Houston take three of the top four spots with Tristyn Allen going second (12.23 meters), Jasmine Lipscomb taking third (11.84 meters) and Darian Bucknor in fourth (11.62 meters).
