Game Story: Kats Clinch Tourney Berth With Win At HBU (5/6)

HOUSTON - The Bearkat softball team had positioned itself well to advance to the postseason with series wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Abilene Christian, but a sweep on the road to Southeastern Louisiana in the penultimate series of the season set up some drama going into the regular season's final weekend.

Three berths in the Southland Conference Tournament were already clinched entering the weekend, while six teams still found themselves alive for the final three spots in Conway, Ark., including the Bearkats' final opponent – Houston Baptist.

With its postseason fate in its own hands, the Kats went straight to work on the opening day of the series, sweeping a doubleheader from HBU and ending the Huskies' chances at extending their season in the process.

That set things up for the series finale with the Bearkats knowing a victory would clinch a ticket to Conway. Senior Hannah Marino provided all the offense Sam Houston would need that day, and Lindsey McLeod picked up her second win of the weekend in a 3-2 Bearkat victory.

Marino capped a week that saw her win Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors with three RBI while reaching base all three times she came to the plate, while McLeod retired all 12 hitters she faced in relief on her way to earning her second win of the series.
