HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State soccer kicking off the 2017-18 athletic calendar on Aug. 18 and over the next several weeks, we’ll introduce you to the program’s eight incoming freshman.
The unit looks to help the Bearkats make their return to the Southland Conference Tournament for the eighth time in nine years. The group includes three midfielders, three defenders and two forwards while six of the eight hail from Texas and the other two coming from Tulsa, Okla., and Phoenix, Ariz.
Our fourth freshman is No. 24, Daisy Ervin. She played at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Ariz., under Coaches Suzanne Kirchner and Joe Kiefer. Ervin was selected as a D1 High School All-Section 2nd Team and helped her to squad to take fifth in playoffs during the 2015-2016 season.
Why did you choose to further your soccer career at Sam Houston?
“Sam Houston has a great soccer program and I wanted an opportunity to play the game I love at the next level.”
How would you describe your strengths on the field?
“Strong on/off the ball, good first touch and passing skills.”
What are some of your hobbies outside of soccer?
“Go shopping, listen to music, watch Netflix, and spend time with family/friends.”
Do you have any pregame superstitions?
“I can’t play without chewing gum.”
What are your personal goals entering the season?
“To be an impact player and make a positive difference.”
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“Australia, because it’s so pretty and I’ve always wanted to go there.”
Who is your favorite soccer player and why?
"Clint Dempsey, because we’ve both lost our siblings but still continue playing in their honor.”
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
“Humble, caring, and loyal”
What does a perfect day look like to you?
"Going to Disneyland/Disneyworld”
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be and why?
“Friday Night Lights because Tim Riggins.”
If you weren’t playing soccer, what sport would you be playing?

“Chris Brown, Drake and anything country”
Where is the most interesting place you've visited and why?
“Nashville, Tennessee because I loved the southern hospitality and it’s so different from Arizona”
If you had a bucket list, what is one thing that would be on it?
"Adopt a litter of puppies”
