FRISCO – Senior outside hitter Jordyn Vaughn was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday in an announcement by league officials after helping the Bearkats to three wins.
It is the first such honor for Vaughn and the Kats this season, and she did so in helping Sam Houston to their first 4-0 start in SLC play since 2013. The senior outside hitter averaged 5.00 kills per set and hit .305 for the week in wins over Nicholls, New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.
She opened the week by hitting .258 with a dozen kills and two blocks against the Colonels before following that up with 19 kills and hitting .304 against UNO on Thursday. Vaughn finished out the week with another 19-kill performance, doing so in just three sets and hitting .341 in a sweep of the Lions on Saturday afternoon.
Currently, Vaughn sits atop the Southland with 3.80 kills and is currently riding a streak of 11 consecutive matches with at least 10 kills.
Vaughn and the Kats have a pair of road matches on the slate this week, starting Thursday at Nicholls, followed by a Saturday matinee at McNeese.
