HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State head softball coach Bob Brock announced the signing of a pair of Texas prepsters for the 2018 season on Wednesday as Alexandra Diaz and Kyndal Kutac each signed on to join the Bearkats.

Diaz played both in the infield and outfield during her time at Klein Oak High School but will likely find her way to the outfield in Huntsville. Meanwhile, Kutac brings plenty of versatility of her own after a standout prep career at Schulenberg High School.

“Even though this is a small signing class, I look forward to these two young ladies exceling here in the classroom and on the field by adding great depth to our squad,” Brock said on Wednesday. “They both will have great careers here at Sam Houston because they fit right in with the group we currently have on campus.”

The 5-7 Diaz has helped lead Klein Oak to the state playoffs each of her first three years on the squad, including district titles in 2015 and 2016. A three-time all-district choice, she earned first team honors as a junior after hitting .379 with four homers and 16 RBI. She also played for the Texas Peppers on the club scene.

“We are really excited about Alex,” Brock said. “She is a left-handed leadoff hitter that can come right in and excel for us in the outfield.”

Meanwhile, Kutac has been a menace to opponents for the Shorthorns in her high school time. She has led SHS to the state playoffs each of the last two seasons and was honorable mention all-state each of the last two years in addition to being named the district offensive MVP in 2017.

She has hit .532 for her career, stealing 33 bases while totaling 31 doubles, 13 triples, 14 home runs and 82 RBI in just 65 games played.

“We are very glad to be able to add Kyndal to our squad,” Brock said. “With her power at the plate and her versatility in the field, this is a great fit here for her and for us.”

She has also been a standout on the club circuit with Texas Blaze, helping her team to a first place finish at the 2016 summer nationals. Kutac has also been a part of the volleyball, track and powerlifting squads at Schulenberg High School.
