To our core group of fans, I cannot thank you enough for your dedication and unwavering support. Your devotion and commitment have been integral in Sam Houston State football’s ascent onto the national stage. Our program has been among elite company, advancing to the FCS Playoffs for a seventh-straight year behind another 10-win regular season.
As an administration, we have sought to match the commitment showcased by our coaches and players through financial means at an extremely high level to guarantee home playoff games at Bowers Stadium. When we were at risk of losing a marquee opening game against Richmond, we answered the bell, keeping the matchup in the state of Texas. Our student-athletes deserve these opportunities and our loyal fan base expects them.
I am blessed and fortunate to have personally invested 35 years into our football program in a variety of capacities. Sam Houston is not my alma mater but this is my home. I care deeply about the success of our team and the experience both our student-athletes and fans have on game days.
Our loyal fans, including myself, have been a part of some lean years. When I reflect on those times, it makes what we are in the midst of today that much more special.
On Saturday, our Bearkats make their sixth FCS Playoffs quarterfinals appearance in the last seven years. Our goals and aspirations as a program and university do not stop with this game. To make a run at a national championship, however, we need your support.
Bowers Stadium has been one of the toughest places in the FCS for opponents to win. When we show up in numbers, that advantage only strengthens. There will be a number of factors determining Saturday’s outcome but as fans, we have the opportunity to display a true home field advantage.
We need every Sam Houston alumnus, student and fan in attendance on Saturday vs. Kennesaw State at 7:30 p.m., ready to back our team. Twelve games in, we have positioned ourselves right where we want to be. Now, as a university, let’s take that next step towards a national championship together.
