The Kats will be looking to put an end to a 6-game losing skid and get into the win column in SLC action after falling to 0-3 in league play on Saturday with a close loss to UIW in Huntsville. They will be looking to do so against one of the stingiest defenses in the league with the Islanders coming into the game ranked second in the SLC and 20th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 55.6 points per game.

TAMUCC earned its first win of league play itself on Saturday in Natchitoches, La., holding on for a 62-56 win over Northwestern State after starting off the SLC slate with losses to two of the league’s top teams – Central Arkansas and Lamar.

Brittany Mbamalu, Dalesia Booth and Emma Young all come in averaging better than 10 points per game for Royce Chadwick’s club, but no other player is averaging better than Kre’Ana Henry’s 6.4 points for a team putting up less than 60 points per contest this season.

Sam Houston, meanwhile, will be looking to get its offense going after struggling on that end of the court its last two times out. The Kats held UIW to less than 60 points on Saturday, but shot just 31.5 percent from the floor despite forcing 24 turnovers and winning the rebound battle against the Cardinals.

Jenniffer Oramas continues to lead SHSU with 10.8 points per game, while Lydia Baxter has averaged 10 points per game in SLC play after putting in 16 points to go with seven boards against UIW.

The Islanders own a 16-9 record in the all-time series with the Bearkats and come into Wednesday having won five of the last six in the series. Prior to the recent run for the Islanders, Sam Houston had picked up seven straight wins dating from the 2010-11 to the 2013-14 seasons.
