HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats will try to put another win on their ledger on Wednesday night when they host the McNeese Cowgirls at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.

The game can be watched online on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. Live stats are available at GoBearkats.com and fans can also get updates as they happen by following @BearkatsWBB on Twitter.

Sam Houston will be playing on its home floor for the first time since Jan. 13, kicking off a week that will also include a clash with Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon. With four of their next five games at home, the Kats have a great opportunity to move up in the league standings as they currently stand two games back of Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls for the final spot in March’s Southland Conference Tournament in Katy.

Coach Brenda Nichols’ team stayed with undefeated league leader Stephen F. Austin on the road on Saturday before the Ladyjacks pulled away in the second half. That came on the heels of the Kats picking up their first SLC win in comeback fashion at Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday.

The Cowgirls had run their league mark to 4-3 with consecutive wins over Southeastern and Houston Baptist before being clipped by Lamar on Saturday. They rank fourth in the league in scoring (65.8 ppg) but are allowing 71.9 per game, a tally that is better than just one team in the Southland.

Caitlin Davis (11.3 ppg) and Dede Sheppard (10.4 ppg) are the only Cowgirls averaging in double figures, while Mercedes Rogers has four double-doubles on the year after putting up 14 points and 10 rebounds against Lamar.

SERIES vs McNEESE
McNeese holds a 28-24 advantage in the all-time series after having won seven of the last eight games dating back through the 2010-11 season. The Kats dropped single games to the Cowgirls each of the last four years, including a 79-56 loss in Lake Charles a year ago.
