The Bearkats picked up wins in both of its contests last week, with 2-point victories over both Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar. It marked the first time the Kats had won back-to-back games by two points or less since the 1987-88 season.

It also kept Sam Houston within immediate striking distance of first place in the Southland, a position they can claim with what would potentially be the 10th Bearkat win over Nicholls in the last 12 meetings between the teams.

Christopher Galbreath Jr. pumped in 16 points in each of the two wins last week, including a key four points in the final minute that tied the game against the Cardinals. He still leads the team with an average of 15.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

The Kats also got a big game from Jamal Williams on Saturday with 13 points and nine boards off the bench, pushing him over 500 rebounds for his career and pushing him into company with Ryan Bright as the only two Bearkats in program history with at least 500 rebounds and 250 assists for a career.

The Colonels have been one of the most steady teams in the league since the opening of Southland play under second-year head coach Richie Riley. With a roster comprised of five Division I transfers, including former South Florida guard Roddy Peters who leads the team in scoring and the league in assists, Nicholls has surged to the top of the league standings by a half game over the Kats and Southeastern Louisiana with wins in their last three outings.

They lead the league in scoring at 84.4 points per game with an offense that only ranks in the top three in the league in field-goal percentage, but also 3-point accuracy. Since starting SLC play they have allowed just 67.9 points per game and are the lone team in the league winning by an average of at least 10 points per game.

Peters’ 19.4 points per game in league play is second only to UCA’s Jordan Howard, while Tevon Saddler also ranks in the top 10 with 15.3 per contest.

SERIES vs NICHOLLS
This will be the lone meeting of the season between the Colonels and the Bearkats with Sam Houston currently riding a 5-game win streak in the series. The Kats have only traveled to Thibodaux once in that span, winning 62-39 in 2015. The last Sam Houston loss on the Colonels’ home floor came in overtime, 70-67, in 2013. In all, Sam Houston has won nine of the last 11 meetings since the 2009-10 season
