HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State football team has announced the addition two-game series with Northern Arizona for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
The games with the Lumberjacks are the first additions to the slate for both seasons with the Bearkats heading to Flagstaff on Sept. 4, 2021 before the Lumberjacks return the game the following year, coming to Bowers Stadium on Sept. 10, 2022.
“Scheduling has become tough for us and this is a great opportunity for us to schedule a high-level team in a home and home situation,” Sam Houston head coach K.C. Keeler said. “NAU is a great team that comes from a great league, one which Southland teams often see in the FCS playoffs. We try to keep scheduling regional, which makes travel easier. In this situation we happened to have the same open dates and it all worked out.”
NAU leads the all-time series with Sam Houston by a 2-1 margin with the teams not having squared off since a 34-18 win by the ‘Jacks in Huntsville on Nov. 15, 2003. That game was the first of three consecutive seasons Sam Houston and NAU faced off on the gridiron with the Kats’ lone win in the series coming by a 34-31 margin in 2001 in the opening round of the NCAA I-AA Playoffs.
The Kats are set to open up fall camp for the 2018 season on Saturday, August 10 at Bowers Stadium in preparation for its Sept. 8 opener at home vs Prairie View. Season tickets are on sale for the entire 2018 season by clicking HERE or by calling (936) 294-1729.
