HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats will look to make a big splash on the road this weekend when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take part in the GSU Invitational.

Fans will be able to follow each match via live stats or by following @BearkatsVB on Twitter. The Kats’ Friday match vs Georgia State will also be streamed on GeorgiaStateSports.com.

The Kats ran their win streak to three in a row with a victory over Mississippi Valley State in the opener of last weekend’s Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic, but then dropped the final two matches of the tournament to Houston and Louisiana, including going five full sets against the Cougars.

Freshman outside hitter Breanne Chausse was named to the all-tournament team at the end of the event and currently ranks 11th in the Southland Conference with a .268 hitting percentage while also averaging 2.40 kills per set. Senior Taylor Cunningham also continues to rank near the top of the league tallies, hitting .250 for the young season while ranking eighth in kills (3.05 kps), blocks (1.00 bps) and digs (3.65 dps).

Scouting Georgia State
The Panthers have been up and down in the early part of the season, but will be making their home debut when they take on the Bearkats on Friday. They won two of three during the opening weekend at the Starkvegas Classic, including a win over Mississippi State, but then dropped consecutive matches last week to both Marshall and Loyola-Chicago as part of the Rambler Challenge.

Scouting Ole Miss
The Rebels have been off to a great start under former Central Arkansas head coach Steven McRoberts. They picked up wins over both Virginia and Oregon State in the first weekend of the year and enter Atlanta having won five straight since a loss at Iowa State. Ole Miss is hitting at a solid .208 as a team, while opponents are hitting just .186. Setters Lauren Bars and Jordan Fate have combined for nearly 11 assists per set while Emily Stroup has been the top target, averaging 4.48 kills per set with 145 more attacks than anyone else on the roster.

Scouting Chicago State
CSU brings a season record of 4-4 and a three-match winning streak to the ATL this weekend coming off a three-set sweep of city rival UIC Tuesday night in its home opener at the Jacoby Dickens Center. The Green and White are led by senior outside hitter Lauryn Dela Cruz as she is posting a team-leading average of 3.86 kills per set to go along with 2.86 digs a set. Junior defensive specialist Megan Klavitter leads the Western Athletic Conference in digs with an average of 5.21 per set, while sophomore setter Lacee Adams paces the Cougars in assists (5.82 aps) and service aces (nine).
