HUNTSVILLE – After graduating seven seniors from the Sam Houston State soccer team, head coach Tom Brown announced the signing of National Letters of Intent from 10 high school seniors for the 2019 season.

"I feel like this is a strong recruiting class that can help us get back to where we want to be,” Brown said. “This group brings balance all over the field and I believe several of these players have the ability to be an impact player from the start."
Irania Acosta – D / 5-7 / El Paso, Texas / El Dorado HS
A four-year letterwinner at El Dorado High School, Acosta led her team to a pair of Bi-District championships as a freshman and junior. She earned All-District Honorable Mention status as a freshman and graduated to the second team in her sophomore season. She earned first-team all-district laurels following her junior season for head coach Adrianna Enriquez. She is a member of Rush Predator 00, which ranks No. 1 in South Texas, and led the team to a Disney Showcase and Presidents Cup Texas State Championship.
Kenzie Arrington – MF / 5-6 / Pflugerville, Texas / Hendrickson HS
Arrington comes to Sam Houston after a four-year varsity run at Hendrickson High School. In 2016, she led her squad to a district and bi-district championship and helped the team advance to the area round of the playoffs. She was named an all-district second-team member and collected “Team Workhorse” honors. She led Hendrickson to another district championship the following year, but this time took the Hawks all the way to a 6A State Championship. Her efforts earned her all-district honorable mention laurels. In 2018, she helped Hendrickson to another bi-district championship as she raked in all sorts of honors. She was dubbed the district’s defensive MVP, the team MVP and Defensive MVP and capped off a solid career with All-State second-team honors. She earned academic all-district honors in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She was named to the Austin American Statesman All-Central Texas Team in 2018 and was a member of TopDrawerSoccer.com’s TDS Winter State Stars. Arrington is a member of the Lonestar soccer club where she plays in the Frontier Development/National League for Peter McCann.
“Kenzie can play multiple positions for us. We recruited her as a midfielder but she has also been playing as a defender for her club team. She is very good on the ball and has very good vision when reading the game. She continues to get better every year and I am excited about her future.”
April Bennett – D / 5-7 / Derby, England / Allestree Woodlands School
Hailing from Allestree Woodlands School in Derby, England, Bennett led her team to a Derbyshire Schools Championship as a freshman, sophomore and junior. In her third season for head coach Tom Clevely, she helped the team to an English Schools inter-County National Championship. Bennett helped her squad earn Derbyshire Sports Team of the year as a sophomore and she was the Managers Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. She is a current member of the Derby County Ladies for coach Tommy Booth.

Kamryn Blevins – D / 5-6 / Mansfield, Texas / Mansfield Legacy HS
Blevins comes to Sam Houston after an impressive career at Mansfield Legacy High School under head coach Zachary Hallak. As a freshman, she led her squad to a district championship and the fourth round of the playoffs. She garnered all-district second-team laurels and was an academic all-state selection. She led Mansfield Legacy to an undefeated district championship as a sophomore and helped the team advance to the fourth round of the playoffs once again. After the successful season, she picked up first-team all-district recognition, academic all-state honors and was named the team defensive MVP. Blevins is a member of the Solar 00 Girls West organization for coach Ben Williams.
“Kam is a very good outside defender that can help shut down the other teams’ forwards. She is strong in the tackle but also is a solid player when getting into the attack.”
Grace Darby – F / 5-4 / Montgomery, Texas / Leadership High School
A December 2018 graduate from Leadership High School in Montgomery County, Darby comes to Sam Houston after stellar careers in both soccer and track. She earned all-district first-team honors as a freshman at Montgomery High School. She was a member of the varsity track team for two seasons where she advanced to the area meet both seasons. While on the track team, she set a new record in the 4x100-meter relay. A member of the Challenge Soccer Club, she was an Elite Clubs National Team Member from 2016-2018 and was a regional champion in 2018.
“Grace is a fast forward who can help bring some goals to our team next season. She is good coming from wide positions and running at the other team. She does a good job of combining with her teammates to create attacking situations.”
Rachel Downey – D / 5-5 / Mansfield, Texas / Mansfield HS
A three-year letterwinner from Mansfield High School, Downey played on the varsity team as a freshman, sophomore and senior. In her freshman season, she picked up academic and first-team all-district honors after leading the squad to a bi-district championship. She earned the same recognition as a sophomore, leading Mansfield to a bi-district championship once again. She did not play high-school ball as a junior – instead, she joined the Dallas Texans U16/17DA team. She is set to begin her senior season at Mansfield in January 2019. She helped the Dallas Texans 01 Girl’s Black club to a Lake Highlands Girls Classic League Division I and Texas State Cup championship as a freshman and sophomore. She is a current member of the Solar 00 Girls West club for coach Ben Williams.
“Rachel is a fantastic outside defender. She can handle the other teams’ top attacker and limit their ability to impact the game. She is good at going forward at pace and quickly recovering.”
Brooke Jones – MF / 5-5 / Aledo, Texas / Aledo High School
A three-year letterwinner at Aledo High School, Jones comes to Sam Houston after a successful career with the Lady Cats. She led her team to an area championship her freshman year and raked in first-team all-district and offensive newcomer of the year honors. She won the team’s offensive newcomer award and picked up all-district academic recognition. As a sophomore, Jones led her team to a district championship and a state championship finals appearance. Jones played with Dallas Texans Black as a freshman and sophomore, Dallas Texans DA as a junior and is a current member of the Solar premiere league.
“Brooke is such an intelligent attacking player. She can play anywhere in the front half of the team. She will score some fantastic goals for us and will do a good job setting up her teammates as well.
Tatum Krueger – GK / 5-7 / Mansfield, Texas / Mansfield Legacy HS
A three-year letterwinner at Mansfield Legacy High School, Krueger is in the midst of her senior season. She was the starting goalkeeper on the junior varsity team as a freshman, where she allowed just one goal the entire season. She earned the junior varsity MVP award before becoming a member of the varsity team as a sophomore. In her second year for head coach Zachary Hallak, she was the starting goalkeeper and led her team to a district championship. Mansfield Legacy advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs and she garnered academic all-district awards, along with the coach’s award. Krueger is a member of the Solar West 00G for Ben Williams. She was dubbed the “Top Goalkeeper of the Tournament” at the Girls DA Winter Showcase, where she played 225 with only one goal against.
“Tatum is a very good goalkeeper and leader from the back. I like that she is very driven and works hard to continue to improve herself. She is a good shot stopper and I think that she will do well in our conference.”
Lexi Primacio – D / 5-5 / The Woodlands, Texas / Oak Ridge HS
A letterwinner at Oak Ridge High School, Primacio comes to Sam Houston an impressive, three-year career. She received all-district academic, second team and newcomer team awards as a freshman and led her team to the first round of the playoffs as a sophomore. In her second season for Oak Ridge, she garnered all-district first team honors, as well as team MVP recognition. She earned all-district first team laurels as a junior and was voted the team offensive MVP. She chose to forgo playing out her senior season at Oak Ridge and will play with Houston Dash before arriving at Sam Houston.
“Lexi is a very versatile attacking player. She is good at attacking players with the ball and does a good job playing passes to her teammates. I really like her competitive mentality and look forward to having her on our team.”
