The Bearkat bowlers posted a 4-1 record on the opening day of the Music City Invitational on Friday, picking up a few key head-to-head wins in the final tournament of the regular season.

The biggest win of the day for the Kats was a victory over Arkansas State, who Sam Houston is in a battle with for one of the four automatic bids to the NCAA Finals.

“We had some huge wins at the end of the day today that really could have gone either way for us,” said head coach Brad Hagen. ““We have to get out of the gates cleaner and more confidently. We were able to bounce back once transition really hit and we could jump zones but Saturday is moving day and we need to get the W’s.”

Overall, the Kats are in 13th place on total pinfall in the 29 team field, the biggest of the season for the Bearkats.

They opened the day with wins over Drury and Elmhurst before falling by 18 pins to Tulane. They bounced back, though, knocking off Arkansas State and then UAB to close out the day.

They will open play on Saturday taking on St. Francis (PA) in the first of five matches before Sunday’s bracket play.
