COLLEGE STATION- The Sam Houston State outdoor track and field team wrapped up competition on Saturday night during the Texas A&M Invitational at the EB Cushing Stadium in College Station. The team had a couple of athletes set new personal records and one event winner.
Senior Aaron Akens stepped up for the Bearkats and came away the event winner in the hammer throw, registering a throw of 63.62m (a new personal record). Along with winning the event Akens’ mark now has him ranked No. 37 in the nation in the hammer throw.
For the women, Jordyn Vaughn recorded a personal record in the javelin throw. Vaughn recorded a mark of 37.97m. The mark passed her previous best mark of 35.86m, which she posted during the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational & Multi 2019 in March.
-Halie Daniel placed No. 2 in the shot put with a mark of 14.54m.
-Lauryn Caldwell finished No. 4 in the hammer throw, No. 3 in the discus and No. 4 in the shot put.
-Tyler Adams finished No. 5 in the long jump with a jump of 17.17m.
-Fabian McCall took the No. 5 spot in the 110m hurdles with a posted time of 14.76.
-Bryan Henderson finished No. 4 in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 10.45.
-Joshua Hamilton took the No. 4 spot in the triple jump with a jump of 14.54m.
The Bearkats will split time between Long Beach, Calif. And Waco this coming weekend. Some athletes will compete in the Brian Clay/Beach Invitational and some will compete in the Baylor Michael Johnson Invitational.
