FRISCO – Sam Houston State junior shortstop Tiffany Thompson has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, per a release by league officials Monday afternoon.
It is the first time in her career Thompson has claimed the honor.
Her numbers batting second in the lineup last week in wins over UT Arlington and a three-game sweep of Abilene Christian speak for themselves. Thompson helped the Bearkats (23-19, 14-4 SLC) secure a conference tournament bid by hitting an eye-popping .727 with two home runs, three doubles, six runs batted in, seven runs scored and two stolen bases in four games.
The Montgomery product went 2 for 3 with a solo home run and a stolen base in a 3-2 win over UTA April 9 to clinch the season series over the Mavericks two games to one.
This past weekend, Thompson went 2 for 2 with a home run, double, walk, three runs and two RBIs in a 10-0 win in five innings over ACU in game one. She was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI, two runs and a stolen base in a 5-4 game two win.
She capped her week by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, a run scored and a double in an 8-0 win over ACU.
