FRISCO – Following a big weekend series at Southeastern Louisiana, Sam Houston State senior Hunter Hearn has been named the Southland Conference co-Hitter of the Week, per a release from conference officials.

He shares the honor with Collin Morrill of New Orleans, who went 11-for-21 with nine runs scored in a 4-0 week for the Privateers.

Hearn had a big week for the Kats, leading them to three wins in four tries, including a series win at Southeastern Louisiana that put SHSU in sole possession of first place in the Southland with one week to play.

The senior had a hit in each game, including five extra-base hits and seven RBI. He had a walk and an RBI single in a Tuesday win over Florida Atlantic in which the Kats erased an 8-0 deficit to walk off the Owls in the ninth.

He had one of just four Bearkat hits in Friday’s loss at SLU, but then exploded for a huge day in a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. He went 5-for-10 in the twinbill, scoring five times with six RBI in the SHSU wins. It started with two doubles in the opener where he scored twice and drove in two more.

Hearn then turned around in the second game and hit a two-run homer in the first inning before tripling and scoring in his next at-bat. He then delivered a two-RBI double in a six-run eighth inning that iced the game.

Hearn and the rest of the Bearkats are back in action tonight in Tucson, Ariz., where they will take on the Arizona Wildcats in a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 p.m CT at Hi Corbett Field.
