HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston pitcher Lindsey McLeod has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America first team, presented by CoSIDA, the organization announced Thursday.
This is the second time McLeod has been selected to the All-America team, earning third-team honors in 2018. She graduated in May with a 4.0 grade-point average in public health.
The Austin native capped her stellar career as one of the most decorated players in the program’s history. This past season, she went 22-9 and was voted as the Southland Conference Player and Pitcher of the Year, named first-team All-SLC and was the Most Valuable Player of the league’s postseason tournament.
The Bearkats won the regular-season and SLC tournament championships to earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament Austin Regional where they upset ninth-ranked Texas 2-1 in the opening round with McLeod earning the victory.
McLeod was also named to CoSIDA’s Academic All-District VII first team and was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Central Region third team. She was named the SLC Pitcher of the Week twice in 2019 and five times in her career.
She tossed 11 shutouts this past season and posted double-digit strikeouts in 14 games.
McLeod broke SHSU’s career strikeouts record with 721. The three-time All-SLC honoree is second in career no-hitters with three and is second in saves with 11.
She set several Sam Houston State seasonal records as well. McLeod’s three no-hitters in 2019 are tied for first all-time, and she holds the record for consecutive scoreless innings at 41, which she pitched during the Bearkats’ 13-game conference winning streak.
She broke her school record for most strikeouts in a season (222 in 2018) with 265 and in a game with 17 in a win over Houston Baptist in April. McLeod also holds the school career and season records for one-hitters pitched with nine and five (2019), respectively.
Her 22 wins this past season, 11 of which were shutouts, are sixth best in program history, and her 59 career victories are fifth all-time.
